Time-Delayed Braking

What is time-delayed braking

The Pro Series Pilot comes equipped with time-delayed braking. Every time you apply the brakes in your vehicle, a signal is sent - via the brake switch - to the Pilot. The controller then sends power out to your trailer brakes to activate them with an intensity set by you, at a rate determined by you. The amount of braking power (output) can be adjusted to suit your preference, the road conditions, the type of trailer, and the weight of your load. To determine which levels are best for your application, test your towing setup and choose what feels right.

Built-In Controls for Adjustable Power

Pro Series Pilot Controls and Components

Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to set the braking output as high as you can without locking up the brakes. Once you've set up the brake controller the first time, you shouldn't need to adjust the settings until the trailer load changes, you switch trailers, or road conditions change. Use the thumbwheel on the side to change the braking output level. The output setting will appear as a number on the digital display, with a higher number indicating higher braking power.

Manual Override

The Pro Series Pilot keeps the manual override within easy reach on the front of the module, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. Push the slide-bar to activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

Quick, Simple Installation

Because inertia plays no role in the functioning of this controller, you do not have to mount the unit at any particular angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and manual override. The Pilot is especially flexible; its microprocessor allows the controller to even be mounted upside down, and it will still give you a readable display. The Pilot can go wherever you need it. Plus, the included wiring adapter eases installation overall. The custom connector end plugs into the port on your vehicle and the other end plugs into the controller.

Installation Accessories

You can use etrailer's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers

Today, we're going to take a look at the Tekonsha custom wiring adapter for the trailer brake controllers on the Jeep vehicles. Now this is a custom fit part. It will fit the 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler and JL Wrangler Unlimited, the 2019 and newer Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited and the 2020 Jeep Gladiator vehicles. And on a custom fit part like this I always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show you if this'll work for your application. Now this plug in wiring adapter allows for a quick simple installation of your electric trailer brake controller to your vehicle. There is no cutting or splicing required. All you have to do is take this custom four pin connector end here, this will plug in to the built in four pin connector that's on your vehicle. And that four pin connector on the vehicle, it's in the vehicle's built in brake control wiring harness.

And that harness is usually located underneath the dash to the left of the steering column, and it's usually taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. The other end here will plug in to the back of the electric brake controller itself. Now it does come with a nice set of detailed instructions that'll describe how to hook it up and where that connector is. Now this adapter is compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from TrailerMate, Draw-Tite and Tekonsha. But the brake controller must have the built in plug for this adapter to connect. It will not work with the brake controllers that just have the pigtail wires coming out the back.

This is about 28 inches long. One note is to illuminate your vehicle trailer brake lights when you reactivate the manual override on your brake controller, which is required for use in the State of California. You can use this adapter in conjunction with the Tekonsha brake controller converter and seven way adapter, part number 30235-P, which we do sell separately on our website. But that should do it for the review on the Tekonsha custom wiring adapter for the trailer brake controllers on the Jeep vehicles.

by:

good value but the swivel mount being optional should be made more clear

by:

The Jeep dealer recommended I contact etrailer and they were right. Everything worked great, the installation was simple and a much better solution than available from the factory.

by:

The Tekonsha #3073-P worked as advertised, plugged it in my Jeep Gladiator then my brake controller! Seems to be a well made wiring adapter. This will help with the electric braking on my trailer.

by:

I have not installed the adapter yet. However it is what I was looking for to install my Tekonsha brake controller into my 2024 Jeep Gladiator.

by:

Easy to install

by:

Fast delivery and just what I needed

by:

Great deal

by:

easy to use brake box

by:

Great product

by:

Used this in my Gladiator and it has performed as expected. I pull a trailer that comes in just under 4K lbs. dry with electric brakes and they perform exceptionally well. Install was quick and mostly painless other than the slight gymnastics required to get at the plug in the vehicle. The brake controller is mounted by my right knee and the cable was plenty long enough.

by:

Used this for my 2020 Jeep Gladiator and it was super simple to install. Just plug and play. Jeep leaves the end kind of dangling under the left side of the dash and the adapter just plugs right in. I used the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller and together they have worked perfectly pulling my custom camper

by:

wiring adapter did not fit. the connection on the controller end was for a different type brake controller. I had to cut and solder wires to fit hard wiring harness to custom wiring harness to use. I e'mailed as no one would answer phone calls and was told that there would be no issue and the custom harness was plug and play. Not true!

by:

This does not connect to the TowPro elite controller without cutting it and them splicing it to the controller tail. No where in the description does it say this and you are paying a $100 for something you HAVE to modify. I was told by their tech that an adapter for Jeep to the TowPro elite controller is not made. You will now have to spend more money to buy butt connectors and heat shrink to make it work. NOT PLUG AND PLAY!

by:

The trailer brake wiring harness fits like an OEM part. Very good quality, fits perfectly. This is my second Tekonsha Trailer Brake unit and their products have performed flawlessly.

by:

The 3073-P harness worked as advertised; my primary complaint is that its price has jumped from $30 to $95 over the past few months and the backorder took almost two months to fill. It was preferable for me to have an OEM cable in my Jeep Gladiator for the existing tow package, but it would have been a lot quicker and cheaper if I had just hard-wired the Redarc tow brake controller into the vehicle's wire harness using its provided connector. Note that in order to use this 3073-P harness, it also required a 33-TPH-017 harness ($23) to convert it over to the Redarc connection. to summarize, use of this cable unnecessarily added an extra $118 to a controller that already costs $208.

by:

I installed a Curt Spectrum in my 2020 Jeep Gladiator using a Tekonsha 3073 harness.

The Tekonsha’s grey connecter pluged directly into the factory connector on the Jeep. I cut off the black connector & the connector off the Spectrum, and soldered the wires together color for color. Be carful not to cut off the resistor in the harness as the system needs it. I soldered the wires cuz I hate butt splices & the problems they bring.

I mounted the controller under the steering wheel behind the big trim panel using the stick-um provided & ty wraps.

I mounted the control knob to the left of the steering column & ran the wires thru a small hole I poked in the vinyl flap & sealed it with a bit of RTV sealer.

Haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but based on other peoples responses, it should work fine.

by:

Plug and play. Worked flawlessly with our 2020 JT. Allows the Tekonsha controller to really work it's best. We use this to control our off road trailer over some challenging terrain as well as help us stop in heavy traffic. etrailer shipping was crazy fast. We love etrailer and come back again and again!

by:

I contacted etrailer to ask exactly what was needed to wire a Redarc brake controller I intended to purchase from them for my 2020 Gladiator with tow package and was given incomplete information. Yes I needed theTekonsha 3073-P wiring adaptor but I also needed a controller harness to connect the the adapter to the brake controller. It’s ordered now but installation is delayed and I had to pay additional shipping. I’ll let you know what I think of the products once installation is complete.

by:

Product works great. Installation very easy.
etrailer delivery time was a bit extreme. I ordered from etrailer on the recommendation from a friend. It took 7 weeks to receive my brake cable. Upon further research I could have gotten it in 3 days from another dealer. etrailer never called or emailed to explain delivery situation until I contacted them for an update. Product great. Service not so much.

by:

Great brakebox

by:

This harness allowed for very easy installation of a Redarc brake controller to an existing plug on my 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Everything still working great a year later.

by:

it worked had to splice a few wires was not totally 100% plug and play but it did the job.

by:

great brake box

by:

Sells out fast

by:

It would ha e been nice if the sight let you know that the adapter harness will not plug into the brake control.

  • Troubleshooting Hopkins Impulse Trailer Brake Controller Error Message OE
The troubleshooting guide for the Hopkins Impulse trailer brake controller does not list an error code "OE" but if the unit displays a flashing code "SC" this indicates a short on the brake output circuit or a defective brake magnet, which is unlikely on a new Aliner. Those error codes can sometimes be difficult to read. My Hopkins contact said much older versions has error codes E1, E2, E3 but not OE. I suggest taking a close look at your Tacoma's trailer connector. Corrosion issues on...

Hello Patrick, Between the 2 brake controllers that you mentioned I would go with the the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. The main reason is because the Pro Series Pilot # 80550 is time delayed, so there will be a delay from the time that you hit your brakes in your GMC for the brakes to be applied on the trailer.
